5 Probable Reasons Your Car Won't Start
A vehicle that is hard to start, or won't start, is a vehicle that will presumably make you quite frustrated, and understandably so. The starting system in your car is very complex and uses several parts in order to get the engine running. If any one of these parts is unable to do its job your vehicle will not be able to get started, leaving you struck. Depending on the symptoms you experience when you turn the key in the ignition the problem can generally be determined fairly quick. These are five common problems that will prevent a vehicle from starting.
Failing Ignition Switch
The ignition has a few important roles. When you turn the key it creates an electrical pathway that sends electricity to the starter. It also generates the voltage necessary to produce the initial zaps created by the spark plugs to ignite the air & fuel mixture. If your ignition is failing you might experience slow engine cranking, flickering dashboard lights or stalling soon after the engine starts. If you notice any of these issues be sure to speak with your auto repair shop to find out the best way to have the problem resolved.
Dead Starter Motor
The starter motor cranks the flywheel to get the pistons moving in order to greated the combustion necessary to ignite the air/fuel mix. The most common sign of starter motor trouble is a loud clicking or series of clicks that occurs when you turn the key.
The alternator produces electricity in the car. If it is unable able generate any electricity the battery will be drained and there will be nothing left to power the rest of the starting system.
Fuel Delivery Issues
If there are insufficient gasoline being delivered to the combustion chamber the vehicle won't turn on. The issue is often caused by a failed fuel pump, clogged fuel filter or sometimes because of fuel injectors that are not operating properly. Poor fuel delivery will result in an engine that turns over and over but will not start.
The most common issue surrounding no starts is a dead battery. If your car does nothing when you turn the key in the ignition then this is the most likely problem. You can probably jump start your car, but depending on the age and condition of the battery, it may be time to have it replaced.
