4 Bad Signs that your Car Needs Brake Repair Now

4 Bad Signs that your Car Needs Brake Repair NowWhen it comes to vehicle safety nothing is better than a set of healthy brakes. While seatbelts and airbags are great in the event of an accident it is the brakes that can prevent one from occurring. For this reason it is always important to pay close attention to any signs your brakes may be having trouble operating. There are a few ways they may communicate an issue to you, but it takes your senses to know something is amiss. If you experience any of the following symptoms of brake failure call your mechanic right away to make an appointment for brake repair.

Soft Brakes

If your brake pedal has become increasingly easy to press to the floor or if it tends to now rest closer to the floor than it use to there is a good chance that your vehicle is experiencing a brake fluid leak. This is extremely dangerous as it could result in the complete loss of braking power. Leaks generally occur from the brake master cylinder or the individual wheel cylinders.

Vibrating Brake Pedal

A brake pedal that shakes and shimmies when you press it is generally an indication that your brake rotors need to be machined smooth. If the rotors, the part of the brakes that the pads press against, lose their smoothness it will reduce the surface area available to the pads and braking power will be reduced.

Vehicle Pulls during Braking

A car that shoots to one side or the other when the brakes are applied may be suffering from one of several issues. This can be caused by uneven brake pad wear, contaminants in the brake fluid or a malfunctioning wheel cylinder.

Grinding Noise when Braking

Probably the most common sign of braking trouble is a grinding or squealing noise that occurs when you slow. This is due to the fact that your brake pads are worn way down and metal is now grinding on metal. Get to the repair shop ASAP!
