How to get the most miles out of your car
Purchasing a new car can be very exciting, even if it is a "new to you" vehicle. If you have recently acquired a new vehicle, or if you're simply interested in learning what you can do to ensure your current vehicle treats you right for miles to come, you've come to the right spot. These four tips will help ensure that you and your car have a long and healthy relationship on the road.
Keep up with scheduled maintenance
The most important thing that you can do for your car is keep up with all of its maintenance needs. Routine maintenance includes a number of services, including, but not limited to, oil changes, spark plug and spark plug wire replacement, transmission flushes, coolant flushes, differential flushes, battery services, belt and hose replacement, and much more. Check your owner's manual to see what services your car needs and when.
Pay attention to dashboard indicator lights
Your car's dashboard has a number of warning lights that indicate a problem on board. It is important to get to a repair shop as soon as any of these lights come one. Dashboard indicator lights include the check engine light, transmission temperature light, oil pressure light, battery light, ABS light, TPMS light, engine temperature light and many others. Diagnostics must be completed quickly, before the problem has time to grow worse.
Always be on the lookout for trouble
It is vitally important that you give attention to any signs of car trouble, which can come in many forms, aside from warning lights. You may encounter strange noises, such as grinding breaks, odd smells, like a burning paper scent while shifting, or weird vibrations, like the gas pedal shaking if an exhaust leak is present. If anything strange happens as you drive be sure to let a technician take a closer look.
Drive with care
If you take care of your car, it will take care of you. This means driving safely as well. Pay attention to the road, don't try to drive on terrain your car is incapable of conquering and always follow the law.
If you believe your car is in need of service be sure to bring it to a reputable shop as soon as possible.
