Easy Maintenance Tips to Increase MPGs
Do you seem to be spending more time at the gas station these days? Well, while your driving patterns can affect your fuel economy it is more likely that your car could benefit from some simple auto maintenance. Keeping up with scheduled services will keep your car runnings its best in terms of performance and fuel efficiency. The following auto maintenance services are sure to help you get the most out of a tank of gas.
Replace the air filter
The air filter ensures that your vehicle is not subject to contaminants that are present in the air. If the air filter becomes dirty it will prevent the correct amount of air from being able to enter the combustion chamber which is going to require the vehicle to burn more gasoline in to compensate.
Replace the spark plugs
If spark plugs, which is what ignite the air/fuel mixture, become dirty it can result in them to misfire. A clean set of spark plugs will ensure that the engine is running properly, meaning it is operating more cleanly and more efficiently.
Ensure that tires are properly inflated
Tires that are underinflated take more power to spin. Always be sure that your tires are filled to their proper PSI rating. This is not only good for fuel efficiency but also for the overall safety of your ride.
New MAF sensor
The mass air flow sensor reads incoming air and calculates how much of it needs to be mixed with gasoline to create a strong running motor. If the sensor becomes dirty or otherwise malfunctions it can result in the car’s MPGs being adversely affected.
New O2 Sensor
On the other side of the car is the oxygen sensor. It measures oxygen in the exhaust in order to help calculate the right air fuel mixture as well. Should it be unable to do its job correctly due to dirt or corrosion it too can cause a drop in fuel efficiency, sometimes by 25 percent or more. In many cases a failed o2 Sensor will cause the check engine light to come on.
