Simple Auto Maintenance to Restore MPGs

Simple Auto Maintenance to Restore MPGsIf you have found yourself frequenting the gas station more often than normal in recent weeks or months you may want to consider a trip to the auto shop for some revitalizing maintenance. There are a few auto maintenance services that can help restore your car's performance and fuel efficiency. Remember, routine maintenance is key to keeping your car running in optimal condition and preventing the possibility of breakdowns and expensive repairs.

Proper Tire Inflation

If your tires are not properly inflated it is going to take more power to turn the soft rubber. This means the engine will have to work harder to do the same amount of work as it would if the tires were properly inflated. You can check your tires air pressure at nearly any gas station and should you find them to be low there's usually an air pump on site, too.

Oil Change

Oil changes not only ensure proper lubrication inside the engine but they also help to clean out the inside of the motor. This is necessary because as oil circulates through the engine is picks up contaminants that turn the oil to a sludge-like substance. This sludge makes it difficult for the engine to operate at its optimum ability, so removing the gunk and replacing it with new oil will restore the vehicle to its maximum fuel efficiency.

New spark plugs

The spark plugs are fed an electrical charge which causes them to spark and ignite the air and fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber. This is what generates the force that moves the pistons up and down. If the spark plugs become corroded or dirty it will cause them to misfire, thus resulting in a rough running engine and huge waste of fuel, not to mention this could lead to damage to the catalytic converter.

Replace the air filter

If the air filter is to become clogged with dust, dirt and other debris it will result in the motor not being able to take in enough oxygen to mix with the fuel. This will cause the car to burn additional fuel as compensation. Not only does this waste gas but it also can cause other problems inside the motor.

It is important to always keep up with routine auto maintenance to ensure your car is running right.
