When Should I get a Tune Up?
The term tune up is really rather vague. In general it refers to servicing a vehicle, but it doesn't exactly specify what it needs. Tune ups are usually conducted between major auto maintenance appointments on an as needed basis. Tune up services often include fast and affordable maintenances that can be completed rather quickly. They may include new spark plugs, installing new air or fuel filters, replacing the battery, cleaning the fuel system, fluid services and so much more. If you are between factory scheduled maintenance and your car isn't performing as it should, which often includes the following issues, that be sure to contact your local auto repair shop to schedule diagnostics and a tune up!
Decreased fuel efficiency
If you find yourself at the gas station more often than you used to it is likely because your car is suffering in the MPG department. Your car's fuel efficiency could dwindle due to a number of problems, including exhaust leaks, sensor issues or even a clogged air filter. To get the most out of a tank of gas be sure to always pay attention to your estimated fuel efficiency and take note of when it drops so that you can schedule an appointment for a tune up.
Rough idling & stalling
A vehicle that is running rough and stalling is an unsafe vehicle to drive. Should your vehicle suddenly lose power while cruising down the road you could end up in an accident. These problems could occur due to many things, including something as simple as a clogged fuel filter. Don't hesitate to bring your car into a reputable auto repair shop if it begins to have trouble under the hood.
When you turn the key or push the on button in newer vehicles the engine should fire right up and be ready to go in just a few seconds. If the vehicle's engine cranks over and over before starting or requires multiple turns of the key it is definitely time to head to the shop. If you wait too long there is a good chance that you will end up stranded because your car will finally call it quits and not start at all.
Dashboard indicator light comes on
If any dashboard indicator lights come on, including the check engine light, it is imperative that you head to the auto repair shop to find out just what is going on. More than likely a small service will be required, but if the issue isn't diagnosed fast enough you may find your car in need of much heftier repairs.
