Why are Oil Changes so Important for My Vehicle?
There are few, if any, services that are as important for your vehicle as the oil change. Not only do oil changes provide a technician a chance to take a peek at your car as whole to identify any potential issues, but oil changes themselves are hugely necessary to keep vehicles healthy. An oil change for a car is similar to a human taking a cold drink of water when they are very thirsty, it's simply refreshing. Be sure to never put off oil changes for too long, which are usually needed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, depending on the type of vehicle you drive, or you may end up with an expensive engine repair on your hands.
Oil changes regulate engine operating temperature
One of the neat things about oil is that it is scientifically engineered to help reduce the engine operating temperature. While the cooling system can generally handle this task on its own, oil circulates through parts of the engine that coolant can not reach. Oil is designed to prevent heat production by reducing friction, as well as absorbing heat that will be produced regardless. As oil ages it breaks down and loses its ability to do this important task, hence why it is important to replace the oil.
They help to restore vehicle power and performance
As vehicles run dirt, dust and other contaminants make their way into the engine. This debris mixes with the oil and turns it from a very refined liquid into a sludge like substance. This sludge is thick and muddy and makes it difficult for the engine to operate. This means the engine loses power and suffers from a drastic fall in fuel efficiency. During an oil change all this sludge is removed, thus restoring the ability of the engine to properly operate.
Fresh oil keeps everything properly lubricated
Of course the most important reason to perform oil changes on a regular basis is to ensure that the moving parts of the engine are properly lubricated. Without oil the moving parts inside the motor would grind together, quickly causing massive wear and tear and it would eventually result in the engine seizing. Don't let your motor die, just get the oil changed!
